What your tour can look like

Start with a Dutch food walking tour
Your guide will welcome you at our ‘living room’ , the centuries old Dutch café ‘Papeneiland’ for a piece of their delicious homemade apple pie with a drink of your choice. It may sound strange to start with something sweet but we are happy to explain why we Dutch like to eat apple pie any time of the day in a so-called ‘bruin cafe’ (brown pub)
You will then continue your Dutch food tour through the Jordaan and visit three special locations where you will be introduced to Dutch cuisine.
The first stop is at a fish delicatessen where you will see how the famous Dutch herring is cleaned and of course you will taste it. With that we will serve a Dutch ‘jenever’ which has been distilled for hundreds of years less than 200 meters from the fish store. We will also tell you why herring played such an important role in the growth of the Netherlands and Amsterdam into one of the richest and most powerful places in the world during the 17th century, also called the “Golden Age”. Finally, you will taste smoked eel which is a typical Dutch product and nowadays is considered a luxury delicacy.
The next stop will take you to an artisanal butcher shop that has been located in the Jordaan since 1892 and is famous throughout Amsterdam for its sausage making, cold cuts and exceptional quality Dutch meat. You will get to sample a selection of the two most popular sausages and two types of meats while marveling at the magnificent store and its typical Jordaan neighborhood atmosphere.
It is then time to walk to the luxurious private boat but not before we visit one of Amsterdam’s most premium delicatessen and cheese store that also supplies numerous Michelin restaurants across the country with top cheeses from home and abroad. Here we pick up a specially assembled picnic box of top-quality Dutch cheeses to enjoy on the boat.
Than hop on a private boat
For the canal cruise of 1.5 hours, we rent so-called “salon boats” which were mostly built in the early 20th century as pleasure boats for the elite but also for notables such as the doctor or the notary to travel in style by boat to their clients. You will be welcomed on board by the skipper while your guide serves a drink of your choice to accompany the cheese. You sail along the famous Amsterdam canals where, depending on the route, you will see numerous famous places such as the Anne Frank House, the Westerkerk and the Skinny Bridge pass by. Your guide will tell you more about these but will also allow time for you and your company to enjoy each other’s company and relax. Oh yes, along the way we will also pick up some delicious hot ‘bitterballen’, our national snack for drinks.
