About the tour
The Jordaan Dutch Food Tour is a culinary-historical city walk through the historic 17th-century Jordaan district and is the perfect way to get acquainted with Amsterdam and Dutch cuisine.
On this interactive tour with a maximum of 8 guests, our experienced Dutch guides, who themselves have been residents of Amsterdam for many years, let you taste the traditional Dutch delicacies and products at the special places where the locals buy their food, go out for dinner or have a drink.
You will also hear everything about the preparation and history of the food and drinks and its place in Amsterdam and Dutch society. On the easy walks between the tastings, you will see and hear about the history, architecture and culture of Amsterdam and we will give you an insight into daily life in the city.
The Dutch Food Tour XL is suitable for young and old. Because of the small groups and because we only work with the best and most experienced guides in Amsterdam, there is plenty of time to enjoy the city and the food, get to know each other and really understand Amsterdam. At the end of the day, we hope that you feel that you have had a relaxed and exciting day with new friends and delicious food rather than taking part in another tour
The Jordaan area
The 400-year-old Jordaan is a former working-class area and is one of the most beloved areas among Amsterdammers themselves for its picturesque streets, canals and houses and fantastic range of small shops, bars and restaurants away from the busy and touristic areas.
The meet up
The tour starts in front of one of Amsterdam’s oldest and most beautiful Dutch pubs named Café Papeneiland on the crossing of two picturesque canals. You will clearly recognize your guide at the starting point of the tour by the folder with the Amsterdam Food Tours logo and if you are late we will try to telephone you (provided you issued us your number) to help you find your way and, of course, you can always phone us. The tour ends at less than a 10-minute walk from the starting point
The food and drinks
Be sure to come with an appetite, because we’re going to spoil you with loads of delicious food, right from the start of the tour! And you most probably will want to skip the next meal after the tour as well so you might want to book your favourite restaurant another day. We serve a drink at three food stops and of course a locally brewed beer will not be missing. If you don’t like that, you can also choose something else.
Food allergies and dietary requirements
This tour is suitable for vegetarians and guests who do not eat certain types of meat or fish. We can also take into account the most common allergies such as gluten and shellfish allergies. You can indicate this when booking and if in doubt, please ask us before you book. Unfortunately, our tours are not suitable for vegans.
The walking part
The tour is over flat surfaces and the route is approximately 2 kilometers (1.24 miles). In between the tastings we’ll walk a maximum of 10 minutes at a leisurely pace. Usually the tastings will be done standing but if needed you can sit as well. At the first, middle and last food stop we will stay around 30 minutes, toilets are available and seats have been reserved. Please contact us if you are unsure about your physical fitness, we will be happy to look at the possibilities together, such as an adapted private tour.
Benelux Wine & Co
Boerenmarkt / Noordermarkt
Café de Hegeraad
Vis van Katwijk
The tour goes trough the Jordaan area which is in the west side of the city centre and many points of interest such as Central Station, Dam Square and the Anne Frank House are within walking distance of the tour area. Amsterdam is not a city build for cars but good public transport and taxi or Uber services are widely available. And you will be surprised to find out how compact the city is so walking is often a good option as well.
You can cancel your tickets and get a full refund for public tours up to 48 hours before the start time of the tour. For private and customized tours this is 7 days before the tour date. Third party costs like boat rent or museum tickets are non refundable, this also goes for processing and credit card or online payment costs.
The tour is suitable for most allergies and dietary restrictions but unfortunately not for vegans. You can state your dietary restrictions during the booking process and if in doubt, please contact us.
The tours will always take place, no matter what the weather, except when the Dutch meteorological Institute has given out a warning for severe and dangerous weather (code orange or red). In this case we will of course offer you a full refund.
